    BBC - Bible's Buried Secrets 3

Can we find the Garden of Eden? Bible scholar Dr Francesca Stavrakopoulou thinks so. In the final episode of her series re-examining conventional readings of the Bible she argues that the Garden of Eden has nothing to do with the origins of humanity but is rather a story concealing dramatic events about a particular figure in a particular place two and half thousand years ago.

    Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

    Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

This is a propaganda movie, produced by Intelligent Design advocate Ben Stein. It is an object lesson in creationist dishonesty, including a pretty good sample of the range of fallacies and techniques used by advocates for ID/creationism. Now, as most people know, this issue was decided (at least in the US) by the Kitzmiller court case where Judge Jones (a republican who the ID lobby thought would be sympathetic) blasted ID as thinly veiled creationism and blasted the witnesses for ID as liars and deceivers. Really, I'm not joking...go and read the judgement (Google Dover Kitzmiller case). Even though it is effectively a dead issue I thought it would be a useful exercise to annotate this video, pointing out the lies, distortions and total disregard for honesty and integrity which seems to be a hallmark of the creationist lobby. This clip is the first 17 minutes of the film. It is the...

    Jesus Camp

    Jesus Camp

Jesus Camp follows several young children as they prepare to attend a summer camp where the kids will get their daily dose of evangelical Christianity. Becky Fischer works at the camp, which is named Kids on Fire. Through interviews with Fischer, the children, and others, Jesus Camp illustrates the unswerving belief of the faithful. A housewife and homeschooling mother tells her son that creationism has all the answers. Footage from inside the camp shows young children weeping and wailing as they promise to stop their sinning. Child after child is driven to tears. Juxtapose these scenes with clips from a more moderate Christian radio host (who is appalled by such tactics), and Jesus Camp seems to pose a clear question: are these children being brainwashed?

She discovers that to accept the truth leads to surprising revelations. She concludes by sharing how this effects her family.

Mea Culpa - Silence in the House of God

The film follows documentary film-maker Alex Gibney as he examines the abuse of power in the Catholic Church system through the story of four deaf men — Terry Kohut, Gary Smith, Pat Kuehn and Arthur Budzinski — who set out to expose the priest who abused them during the mid-1960s. Each of the men brought forth the first known case of public protest against clerical sex abuse, which later lead to the sex scandal case known as the Lawrence Murphy case. Through their case the film follows a cover-up that winds its way from the row houses of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, through Ireland's churches, all the way to the highest office of the Vatican.
